Wearing Heels and Coming Out

Wearing Heels and Coming Out

Our photojournalist interviewed her classmate. She was amazed by how he opened up and was brought to tears during this interview.

I like to dress up and wear heels, it is my thing. One day, I went to leave the house wearing heels and my dad saw me and told me I wasn’t going to leave the house like that. I ran outside and my dad followed me and screamed at me like I’ve never been screamed at before. It scared me so much. All over a pair of shoes. it was just a pair of shoes.
After I came out people called me a faggot, told me to go kill myself, and would spit on me. People even threw bugs at me and made sexual gestures at me. Luckily, it does not hurt me as much as it would most people. But it still hurts because I know there are people who have died from bullying. Faggot is a strong word, if you just say it in the mirror, it hurts. You can feel the power of it.
